Removing Tonsils Days 1 to 3 (dated 9 October 2009)
Saturday, October 17, 2009
Two days ago, I went to the hospital with a sick feeling in my stomach. No, there is nothing wrong with my stomach. I was there to remove my tonsils. Ha, I knew you think that it's nothing. But it was something big for me, I had never been through an operation.
The operation came and went like the wind. I was given an anesthetics jab and passed out within 5 seconds. When I woke up, I had a sore feeling. Moving my mouth slowly, I could feel pain. I had no desire to eat or drink anything till evening. It was so painful to eat or drink anything.
I was practically sleeping all the time in the hospital as I was exhausted. I was glad to go home yesterday at noon. It was boring. I tried to talk but I could not speak clearly and no one can understand me. As for the medicine, yucks! I had to pound the medicine into powder and mix with water. What a horrible taste!
Today, I can speak more clearly and it is easier for me to eat my porridge. The pain is more bearable today and I can finally swallow the tablet medicine bit by bit. That is better than liquid medicine.
I hope I can speak when I see my surgery doctor on Thursday.

Endless Night
Michael Rogers (Mike) is a penniless and poor man, without a steady job. He desires to own a house and live in it with his future wife. Then, he goes to Gypsy’s Acre and an old gypsy advises him to stay away from this place. There, he meets his true love at first sight, the beautiful heiress, Ellie. His dreams finally came true when he moved in to his new house at Gypsy’s Acre with his beautiful Ellie.
However, it is not as peaceful as the couple expected. Relatives of Ellie are buying houses in the country and visiting them frequently and Ellie’s servant, Greta has been staying with the couple and is a thorn in Mike’s flesh. Meanwhile, the couple still ignores the old gypsy’s warning. Evil lurks in Gypsy’s Acre as fatal “accidents” happens.
Another remarkable crafting of the plot, making the readers look surprised and to ponder over the words, “In my end is the beginning”.

Criminal Intent by Wong Kim Hoh
Tuesday, September 22, 2009
Criminal Intent is a collection of interviews with 12 offenders serving time in prison. It covers various type of crimes, i.e. cheating, theft, molest, rape and abuse.
Some of the offenders were victims of drug abuse while others were victims of greed. Many would like to turn a new leaf, unless circumstances “forced” them back to their old ways.
Crime cannot be tolerated, but what is important is that one is willing to turn a new leaf.

Murder in the Mews

This book contains 4 tales in which the famous Hercule Poirot solves the baffling mysteries using his little grey cells.
How did a woman holding a pistol in her right hand shoot herself in the left temple?
What was the connection between a ghost sighting and the disappearance of top military plans?
How did the bullet that killed the eccentric Sir Gervase Chevenix-Gore shatter a mirror in the other part of the moon?
And should the beautiful Valentine Chantry flee for her life from the holiday life of Rhodes and the ever more complicated love triangle she has created there?
I enjoyed the stories as there is always a twist to the ending of the story.

Black Coffee
Inventor Sir Claud Amory is in dismay when the formula for his powerful new explosive is stolen by someone he had invited to stay in his own house.
Who would steal the secret formula? Everyone is as guilty as innocent. No one could guess whodunit-it was a perfect crime. Almost perfect, until the famous Hercule Poirot uses his little grey cells and eliminates the suspects one by one.
I am surprised by the ending and how Agatha Christie brings the readers into suspecting everyone and gradually to the very thief when the readers gasp in excitement.

The Firm
Mitch McDeere, a top law school student, had the brains and good looks and was hungry for money and a job as a lawyer. He had far too many job opportunities, and then he struck jackpot- a job as a tax lawyer at Bendini, Lambert & Locke. It was the perfect job, his school fees were paid, he got a new car and a mortgage loan for a brand new house and best of all, a high pay based on the number of hours he put in.
Then, two lawyers died in an accident and a FBI agent approached Mitch, telling him that his house, car, and office had been bugged and someone had been keeping tabs on him constantly. Mitch then got interested in the deaths of other lawyers, who had wanted to leave the firm.
Who should Mitch believe? His colleagues who had been nice to him, or the FBI agent? Why would the FBI agent pick him in the first instance?
The brilliant Mitch had his own ways of dealing with the matter and you would be surprised at the developments of the matter.
An ingenious plot which can satisfy the thirst of spy fans and lovers.

Ordeal By Innocence
Jacko Argyle often had brushes with the law by conning women and making them think they are his true love. He would also get money from his foster parents, especially his rich mother, Rachel. The night of the death of Rachel, she had been threatened by Jacko after she refused to give him money.
Then, Jacko was arrested and jailed for the murder of Rachel. He maintained his innocence until his death. He had gotten a ride from a man at the time of his death, he claimed.
Two years later, Dr. Arthur Calgary came to the Argyles’ house, with a purpose that turned the family upside down. Jacko was innocent and he was the witness as Jacko had hitched a ride from him.
Who could be the one who killed Rachel?
Hester Argyle (Rachel’s daughter)- A girl with wild temper
Leo Argyle (Rachel’s husband)- Leo is about to get a new wife.
Michael Argyle (Rachel’s son)
Gwenda Vaughan (Leo’s secretary)- Gwenda is going to marry Leo.
Kristen Lindstorm (Leo and Rachel’s helper)- She has no motive so far.
Mary Durrant (Rachel’s daughter)- She is a very selfish person who married a man against Rachel’s will.
Philip Durrant (Mary’s husband)- He has no motive so far.
Tina Argyle (Rachel’s daughter)- She enjoyed the love and affection from Rachel so far.
Mickey Argyle (Rachel’s son)- He felt restricted by Rachel.
Donald Craig (Hester’s boyfriend)- He thinks that Hester killed Rachel.
Arthur was determined to find the killer, especially when someone ended dead due to the matter.
A shocking beginning, a good plot and a happy ending all concealed in a book.
